DESCRIPTION:Sei-Ki Workshop mit Alexandra Gelny\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nResonanz wird im Sei-Ki möglich\, wenn wir mit Präsenz und ungeteilter Aufmerksamkeit in Kontakt gehen – ohne uns aufzudrängen\, ohne Ego.\n\n\n\nIm Sei-Ki stellen wir uns der anderen Person und dem\, wie sich Leben in ihr im gegenwärtigen Moment ausdrückt\, zur Verfügung. \n\n\n\nWir werden zu einem Verstärker ihrer Lebensbewegung\, indem wir genau so berühren\, wie es für die individuelle Dynamik richtig und stimmig ist. So gehen wir in einen Kontakt\, in dem sich Resonanz entfaltet und Veränderung möglich ist. \n\n\n\nUnser Ziel im Berühren ist es nicht „zu korrigieren“\, sondern zu erkennen: die Person\, die Lebensbewegung\, die Veränderung. Wir werden zu einem Gefäß\, zu einer Präsenz\, die den Raum für jedwede Ausdrucksform von Transformation hält. \n\n\n\nWenn wir uns von der Vorstellung lösen\, etwas „reparieren“ zu müssen\, werden wir empfänglicher für das\, was lebendig\, real und gegenwärtig ist. Die andere Person fühlt sich dann gesehen und anerkannt – eine völlig andere Erfahrung\, als nur „behandelt“ zu werden. \n\n\n\nIn einem solchen Kontakt öffnet sich ein Raum\, in dem es möglich ist\, Harmonie wiederzufinden; loszulassen\, was nicht mehr dient; Gesundheit „zu erinnern“ und einen authentischen Ausdruck des Lebens zuzulassen. \n\n\n\nPräsenz in der Berührung\n\n\n\nResonanz wird in Sei-Ki möglich\, wenn wir mit Präsenz und ungeteilter Aufmerksamkeit in Kontakt gehen – ohne uns aufzudrängen\, ohne Ego. \n\n\n\nDas erfordert Disziplin und Klarheit: die Disziplin des Nicht-Tuns\, und die Klarheit\, sich dem hinzugeben\, was sich im gegenwärtigen Moment zeigt. \n\n\n\nIm Sei-Ki ist das\, was die andere Person uns zeigt\, alles\, was zählt. It is a Zen and seminar centre of the BodhidharmaZendo Vienna and is located in the Hohe Wand Nature Park\, about an hour’s drive South of Vienna. At just under 1\,000 metres above sea level\, the BergZendo is “enthroned” at the top of the Hohe Wand (this literally means “High Wall”)\, an impressive karst plateau in southern Lower Austria. \n\n\n\nFrom here\, a breathtaking panoramic view opens up above and into the valley. DESCRIPTION:A Sei-Ki workshop with Alice Whieldon in collaboration with Taiji master Claudia Sonnefeld\, exploring WuWei. EN/DE\n\n\n\nIn this workshop\, the focus on Sei-Ki is complemented by Wu Wei exercises and experiences. It is about moving in emptiness.  \n\nWu Wei literally means non-action. However\, the extent of the meaning of Wu Wei only becomes clear from the Daoist context in which it is used and applied. Here\, a paraphrase of the term in the sense of “not interfering unnecessarily and disruptively in the course of things\, in the events of nature\, in the natural processes and structures” would be more far-reaching.   \n\nWu Wei means observing what is\, both on a small and large scale. It means “getting in touch” with one’s own being as well as with the being of the world.  \n\nIf we manage to organize our lives in such a way that we allow time to listen to things\, give ourselves space to understand ourselves and act in accordance with our nature\, then it is possible to track down WuWei. The more familiar we are with ourselves\, the more effortlessly we will be able to deal with the world. It’s about moving through life according to the circumstances. \n\nBoth Sei-Ki as an art of touch and Taijiquan as an internal martial art are excellent methods for harmonizing one’s own system in such a way that it becomes easier to “follow the phenomena and return to the source” (Dao de Jing)\, to get to the bottom of one’s own essence and at the same time one’s own active force. \n\nIn this workshop with Alice Whieldon and Claudia Sonnefeld\, different approaches come together – Sei-Ki as an art of touch and Taijiquan as a martial art. In questo workshop ci dedichiamo in particolare alla disciplina del “non fare” nel senso di “non manipolare”\, un aspetto fondamentale del Sei-Ki. \n\n\n\nIl “non fare” nel tocco significa riconoscere la forza della vita.\n\n\n\nÈ qualcosa di “attivo”\, perché dà spazio al movimento naturale e lo sostiene. \n\n\n\nIl “non-fare” nel tocco è molto lontano dal “non fare nulla”.Significa essere completamente presenti e vigili – e richiede allo stesso tempo di fare un passo indietro rispetto alla propria volontà\, alle proprie idee e all’ego. \n\n\n\nNel Sei-Ki\, il “non-fare” è allo stesso tempo disciplina e abbandono.Ci sfida a lasciare andare concetti familiari di “aiutare”\, “fare effetto” o “trattare”. \n\n\n\nInvece\, alleniamo la sensibilità\, l’attenzione e la capacità di riconoscere come vero ciò che percepiamo\, senza giudicare. \n\n\n\nNon tocchiamo per correggere o modificare qualcosa.Non intervenendo\, non cercando di riparare\, ma mettendoci a disposizione\, nasce un contatto che nel Sei-Ki chiamiamo risonanza. In questo spazio il cambiamento può svilupparsi da sé – nel proprio tempo e nella propria forma. \n\n\n\nIl “non-fare” nel Sei-Ki significa dare spazio a un movimento naturale verso l’armonia.  \n\n\n\nPuò sembrare astratto\, ma nell’esperienza e nel ricevere del Sei-Ki è qualcosa che ci è familiare: può essere vissuto come un “tornare a casa”\, come il ritrovare o il riconoscere qualcosa che si conosce da sempre ma che forse si era dimenticato\, oppure come il lasciar andare qualcosa di cui non si ha più bisogno da tempo. Ciò che si manifesta può essere sottile o evidente\, quieto o intenso. La qualità del “non-fare” non è un concetto teorico che si può applicare dopo di averlo compreso mentalmente. È necessario di sentirlo\, d’incarnarlo\, di praticarlo\, di rendersi disponibile a esperimentarlo. Sta al cuore del Sei-Ki. Il “non fare” è qualcosa di cui abbiamo bisogno e che coltiviamo nel Sei-Ki. \n\n\n\nUn’idea vaga del “non-fare” c’è già nell’approccio fondamentale dello Shiatsu.  \n\n\n\nC’è la consapevolezza che il sentire sia importante. Comunque\, non è facile insegnarlo\, e non è facile impararlo. Nello Shiatsu contemporaneo\, spesso il sentire è finito un po’ in secondo piano\, dietro le teorie dei meridiani e dietro tecniche elaborate.Il Sei-Ki riporta le qualità del sentire e del “non-fare” in prima fila. Nel Sei-Ki queste sono le qualità che stanno proprio al centro della disciplina. Non serve “saper fare”\, serve disponibilità alla vita. \n\n\n\nUn workshop di Sei-Ki è un invito a fare esperienze e ad aprirsi al sentire\, indipendentemente da esperienze precedenti. Il Sei-Ki è una disciplina\, una “Via”\, è “filosofia vissuta” – può essere praticato come disciplina a sé stante\, ma può anche arricchire profondamente la pratica dello Shiatsu o di altre discipline corporee. \n\n\n\nIl Sei-Ki è stato fondato dal maestro giapponese Akinobu Kishi (1949-2012)\, allievo primario e assistente di Shizuto Masunaga per tanti anni. \n\n\n\nDopo anni di intensa pratica e ricerca\, Kishi si allontanò dallo Shiatsu tradizionale per sviluppare il proprio lavoro\, che chiamò Sei-Ki\, letteralmente “Ki che armonizza” o “Ki armonizzante”. Fin dall’inizio degli anni ’80\, il Sei-Ki ha avuto una grande influenza sullo Shiatsu occidentale. \n\n\n\nIl Sei-Ki può essere visto sia come un’evoluzione dello shiatsu giapponese sia come un ritorno alle sue radici essenziali. \n\n\n\nPer quarant’anni Kishi ha insegnato in Europa e ha diffuso il Sei-Ki in molti paesi. Il suo insegnamento era vivo e spontaneo\, e nessun workshop era uguale a un altro. On this occasion\, he responded that Sei-Ki is soul medicine. I particularly like this; it sounds to me both warm and practical; it is exactly the kind of help I might look for and describes Sei-Ki perfectly.’ – Alice Whieldon \n\n\n\n\nIn this context\, the soul is that aspect of ourselves that is most quintessentially who we are. It is not the changeable parts\, like body\, emotions or even the mind. It is the inner sense of self or the real ‘me’; the bit that doesn’t change; the bit\, you might say\, that is perfect the way it is. But if it is already perfect why would the soul need any kind of medicine?In Alice’s experience\, it is not that the soul needs medical attention\, it clearly does not. But we need help. We need help to get out from under the weight of our troubles\, be they troubles of mind\, body or emotion. We need help\, maybe just a little\, at the right moment\, to be able to be more who we really are. When we are more who we are\, then we are healthier\, even if our bodies carry aches and pains.When this ‘me’\, the most personal aspect of us is seen and heard by someone who wishes us well\, we simultaneously recognise our own discomfort and\, as we become more aware of it\, we can put it down. Once our burdens are set down\, the true ‘me’\, the part that was always OK\, can step forward. We can take a more measured view on life and pain. It is a relief\, and we can breathe again. When I am seen in this way\, my innate wellness shines through.It is in this way that Sei-Ki is medicine; it is balm for the soul. It is not that the soul is ‘mended’ through Sei-Ki touch\, for there is nothing to mend\, but the diamond in the mud is located and dusted down. This simply feels better; it feels good to locate myself in all the noise of the world and I can be more ‘myself’.Kishi Akinobu was a consummate Shiatsu practitioner\, graduate of the Japan Shiatsu College and senior disciple of Masunaga for 10 years. Sei-Ki evolved in this fertile arena and Kishi was a master in his own right. In this workshop\, students of Shiatsu will recognise a family likeness and can experience a flavour of the Japanese approach that can only enhance and inform their work. He was a well-travelled\, influential figure in shiatsu\, working in Europe and North America since the early 1970s. He influenced many who went on to found schools all around the world. In 1980\, a satori experience transformed his work which he then called\, Sei-Ki Soho\, to mark the start of a new lineage. It is rooted in Japanese culture\, reflecting the purpose and aesthetic of the Japanese Arts. Rather than working from theory and applying techniques\, it emphasizes feeling\, experience and presence. \n\n\n\nIf you are a Shiatsu practitioner\, we invite you to come along. You do not have to abandon Shiatsu to appreciate and be inspired by Sei-Ki. DESCRIPTION:A Seitai Workshop with Tsunehisa Watanabe (JP) in Vienna (AT)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this workshop(in Tsunehisa Watanabe’s words):\n\n\n\nDoho can be translated as “the principles of movement” or “the art of movement”. It is a way for learning and rehearsing life through the use of the body and its movement.  \n\n\n\n“Movement” however\, is not limited to the physical movement of muscles and bones. Breath\, energy\, awareness\, all are in constant motion\, and are considered matters of interest to the practitioner of Doho. \n\n\n\nThe practice consists of many different aspects\, much of which are exercises to awaken the senses and heighten awareness of how our bodies behave in relation to its surroundings. Some exercises are rigorous and intensely physical\, some are much subtler and involve minimal outside movement\, but all require the practitioner’s focus and inner silence. \n\n\n\nI tend to think of the exercises as riddles for the body and mind. Rather than a means to improve our health or the body’s functionality\, I see them as ways to challenge our preconceived notions\, in order to unravel — or perhaps just experience — this mystery that we call\, the “body”. \n\n\n\nWhat can emerge from this unravelling\, is something “new”\, a new experience in movement\, a new experience of “me”. \n\n\n\nWhen someone asks us what “art” or “music” or “poetry” is\, we all have different answers. Such definitions\, of course\, depend on the interpretations of each person — and everybody accepts those. Yet\, when it comes to the body\, we seem to have such limited and rigid notions about what it is\, and therefore what it can do or become. \n\n\n\nMust it be like this? \n\n\n\nWe gaze at the moon and bathe in its beauty. We hear thunder and tremble in awe. We can lose ourselves in the fragile wonder of a single flower. Why is it then\, that we don’t seem capable of experiencing the same when we meet our own bodies? If the body is an authentic phenomenon of nature itself  — then\, shouldn’t the mere act of closing our eyes and turning inwards feel just as powerful\, awesome\, and beautiful? \n\n\n\nMy body is\, nature within my reach. It is the world and I\, mixed\, and crystallized. My body is the universe touching me. Therefore\, it makes no sense for it to be unchanged from yesterday\, from moment to moment\, because all that is poured into its making is in constant flux. We are always in motion — changing\, growing\, evolving. \n\n\n\nAnyone can know these truths with certainty\, and with ease. All it takes is an open mind\, soft eyes\, and your permission to let curiosity lead the way.  \n\n\n\nThank you for listening. Hiroyuki Noguchi Sensei is the founder’s son. Tsunehisa Watanabe received his certification as a Doho instructor in 1998\, and has been teaching alongside his training ever since. \n\n\n\nHe has spent part of his life in the US. How can we live a fulfilling life\, embracing pleasure and joy even while we are burdened with trauma in our bodies\, hearts and minds? \n\n\n\nIn Shiatsu\, Namikoshi talked of ‘mother’s touch’ and Masunaga of ‘touch with love’ as the way to meet discomfort. The founder of Sei-Ki\, Kishi Akinobu\, spoke of resonance and the importance of simple human touch. What all of them recognised is that\, when we are met with understanding that is devoid of judgement\, when we are touched with acceptance and nothing is expected in return\, then trauma naturally comes to the surface and dissolves; we find we are breathing again. \n\n\n\nBut the simple is hard to achieve. It involves letting go of what we think we know\, through disciplined surrender. It insists we hone our skill-in-touch\, tekiatsu. \n\n\n\nSei-Ki is philosophy in action. It is a practical acknowledgement that trauma is the human condition\, yet not what defines us. Sei-Ki soothes and questions\, opens and dissolves\, restoring our appetite for life. \n\n\n\nSei-Ki is inherently trauma-sensitive\, before we knew the term. In these three days\, we will touch on what it might mean to live with and through our wounds\, fulfilled and joyful. If you dip your toes in the stream of Sei-Ki\, you will expose yourself to the way of aliveness and be challenged to question your understanding of health\, sickness\, help and cure. By doing so we risk uncovering our resistance and discomfort\, but we also stand to gain so much more\, for ourselves and those who come to us for help. \n\n\n\nNewcomers to Sei-Ki will come away with a basic appreciation of what Sei-Ki is and how it fits in the story of Shiatsu. For students with prior experience\, this is a chance to deepen your understanding. \n\n\n\nStudents will experience the qualities of Sei-Ki touch and be guided in introducing these qualities in their own touch work for personal or professional development. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho it is for\n\n\n\nThis course is open to participants with or without prior experience in Sei-Ki; to shiatsu practitioners as well as anyone interested in touch-based treatment methods. \n\n\n\nTeaching approach\n\n\n\nDemonstration is crucial to picking up the ‘feel’\, qualities and basic form of Sei-Ki through active observation and\, where possible\, experiencing the direct touch of the instructor or assistant. \n\n\n\nPractice is central to learning Sei-Ki. Guidance in the form of kata (exercises) will be given\, as well as time to freely explore. There will be plenty of space for students to practice and experience this approach with the benefit of gentle supervision. \n\n\n\nDiscussion in the form of Q&A sessions and short talks to help students understand core principles in Sei-Ki\, such as: the nature of ‘help’; right timing; right place; right distance. \n\n\n\nA tutorial approach will be adopted towards the end of the workshop. Any participant looking for more personalised feedback will be invited to work with Alice or one of her assistants. \n\n\n\nTutorial Monday \n\n\n\nAlice will be offering tutorials to a limited number of 4 students on the Monday following the workshop\, from 09.00-13.00.
