SUMMARY:Katsugen Undo online | Course and practice (in English)
DESCRIPTION:with Alice Whieldon and Alexandra Gelny \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKatsugen is simple. Simply NOT DOING. \n\n\n\nIt is a regenerating movement that allows us to reconnect with and cultivate our original vitality. It helps us live well by regaining sensitivity to ourselves and our environment. \n\n\n\nKatsugen Undō is a form of exercise that was established as part of the Japanese “health method” Seitai. \n\n\n\n\nWe\, Alice and Alexandra\, came across katsugen and Katsugen Undo through Kishi Akinobu\, in connection with Sei-Ki. We believe that it is a very important practice for anyone practicing Sei-Ki\, but also beyond.  \n\n\n\nIn January 2024\, we travelled to Japan together. One of our aims was to explore the roots of Sei-Ki. Following in Kishi’s footsteps\, we set out to explore Seitai and Katsugen Undō. Our appreciation of this practice was refreshed and deepened by our experiences and we would like to share this with you. \n\n\n\nKatsugen Undo is a powerful practice. While it appears simple to learn the basics\, it can take time to “get it” and to get into it\, and it is a practice that can go deep. We are aware of the responsibility which comes with sharing Katsugen Undo in an online course and are ready to guide and support you on your individual Katsugen journey. \n\n\n\nThis online course and practice series \n\n\n\nis for anyone who has no or little experience in Katsugen Undo\, as well as for anyone who has already practiced with us. \n\n\n\nWe will start with two longer sessions (120 minutes)\, including presentations and background information\, as well as a detailed explanation of the introductory exercises\, discussion within the group\, and practicing together. \n\n\n\nThis will be followed by a series of (shorter) sessions\, every second Wednesday evening\, in which we will focus on practicing and any important feedback or questions. \n\n\n\nThe final session will be a longer one again\, including final discussion and exchange within the group and any additional information. \n\n\n\nBetween the sessions\, Alice and Alexandra will be available for any individual questions and feedback. \n\n\n\nThe dates \n\n\n\n(always Wednesdays\, please note the time zone info): \n\n\n\nLonger sessions to start and really get into it – 120 minutes | 1800-2000 GMT (1900-2100 CET)5 February | 19 February > These sessions will be recorded. \n\n\n\nShorter practice sessions 45 minutes | 1800-1845 GMT (1900-1945 CET):5 March | 19 March | 2 April | 16 April | 30 April | 14 May | 28 May> These sessions won’t be recorded. \n\n\n\nFinal longer session to round it off the series – 90 minutes | 1800-1930 GMT (1900-2030 CET):11 June> This session will be recorded again. \n\n\n\n If you have experience in Katsugen Undo\, you are welcome to join for the practice part only. \n\n\n\nPlus: between 29 January and 14 May there’s a second online Katsugen Undo series guided by Alexandra in Italian. As a participant of this course\, you are welcome to join sessions\, especially the practice sessions (not much talking) of this other course as well. \n\n\n\nHOW TO SIGN UP\n\n\n\nThis course will be set up as an online resource on this website. You can sign up until the second session (19 February). \n\n\n\n\nSign up here\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWe look forward to seeing you there!

SUMMARY:Introduction to Seitai 3.0 | Wien
DESCRIPTION:Workshop with角南和宏 Kazuhiro Sunami (Kyoto\, JP) in Vienna (AT)\nA unique possibility for you to get to know Seitai\, a Way of Movement from Japan. We are grateful and delighted that Kazuhiro Sunami\, a senior Seitai teacher\, will be sharing this Art with us on one of his very rare trips to Europe. FULLY BOOKED! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the workshop\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Kazuhiro Sunami\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop facts\n\n\n\n\n\nSign up here\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this workshop(by Kazuhiro Sunami):\n\n\n\nI teach Japanese grammar to Japanese people. This is how I often describe what I do. Of course\, what I call Japanese grammar is not the grammar of the Japanese language. \n\nIt is the grammar of the traditional Japanese body.We call it Seitai. \n\nIn the last century\, the way we perceive our bodies and the way we use our bodies has changed drastically due to the massive inflow of modern-Western civilisation and the change in our lifestyles. And today we cannot understand how our grandparents lived\, as if they lived in another culture. \nThen\, why am I trying to teach it in Europe?I believe that learning a different way of understanding our bodies can enrich us. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSeitai\n\n\n\nEven though we call ourselves “Seitai Kyokai” or Seitai Association\, word Seitai itself is a common noun in Japanese. Sometimes it is used as a translational word for chiropractic technique. But I use word “Seitai” here as a system started by Haruchika Noguchi\, the founder of the Seitai Kyokai. Some of his books are translated into English and from 1970’s his philosophy and practices have been introduced to Europe by some pioneers who were direct students of Haruchika Noguchi. Katsugen Undo and Yuki are the main practices to express Noguchi’s philosophy. Through those people\, Seitai has been spread out in Europe. \nHaruchika Sensei died in 1976. His sons and his disciples succeeded his work. I myself have come to know of Seitai in 1977 after his death. So I had no opportunity to meet Haruchika Sensei in person. I belong to the second generation in Seitai. My teacher is Hiroyuki Noguchi\, the second son of Haruchika Sensei.  \n\n\n\n\n\nAfter Haruchika Sensei\, Hiroyuki Sensei was in charge of most of the lectures and seminars for the members of the Seitai Kyokai. After ten years of teaching\, he decided to start a new school within the Seitai Kyokai. In 1988\, Shintai Kyoiku Kenkyusho was founded. It literally means ‘Body Education Research Institute’. We still do not have an exact translation for this organisation. Because the word Shintai cannot simply be translated as “body”\, although every dictionary suggests using “body” as an appropriate translation.  \nWhat Hiroyuki Sensei has been trying to do with this school is to elucidate the practices of Haruchika Sensei and how to pass them on to the next generation. He came to realize that people who lived a century ago and people today perceive the body differently. A practice called Doho was developed to replicate the way our ancestors perceived the body. This is why I call my work “teaching Japanese grammar”. The introduction of Doho will be one of the main exercises in the workshops. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSo what is the body?\nOur bodies are the results of our interaction with the environment. You eat food that is not you. You digest it and it becomes you. You meet other people and interact with them. You digest what you experience and it becomes you.You never stay the same. You are constantly renewing yourself. This process is what we call learning and this is what we call life. \nHaruchika Sensei’s “Colds and Their Benefits” is the book written about the process of learning. \nDon’t we have a very manipulative relationship with our bodies? Aren’t you trying to control your body with your will? What we call the body is an area that your will cannot reach.Your body is not your property and perhaps you have never met it. So we need to learn what bodies are and how we can relate to them \nHow can we relate to others? How can we relate to our own bodies? \nIn Seitai\, the first question is how to touch others. The answer to this question will be extended to how we relate to others. Others means not only people\, but also society and the environment around us. \n\n\n\n\nThis is why practicing Doho is needed. \nTo relate to others in a non-manipulative way is the way to meet others. We are so used to relating to others in a manipulative way.As long as we keep our habit of manipulation\, we cannot meet others. \n\nDoho is the word composed of “movement” 動 and “theory” 法.And this Doho introduces you to the world of “kata”.The literal meaning of kata is “form”. But it expresses a state of not-me\, or a state where there is no will to manipulate others. \n\nTouching others in a non-manipulative way with the help of Kata will be the starting point of learning Seitai and it will also be the goal of Seitai. \n\nWhat happens next? This will be the theme of the workshop. \n\n\n\nIt is quite difficult to explain what we are doing with Seitai in the English language\, which always requires the subject “I” or “you”. You always have to add “my” or “your” before the word body. \n\n\n\nMy ambition in this workshop is to shake up the world of solid “I” you live in. \n\n\n\nKazuhiro Sunami \n\n\n\n\n\n角南和宏Kazuhiro Sunami \n\n\n\nis a renowned teacher and member of the Shintai Kyoiku Kenkyusho (Body Education Research Institute) in Japan. \n\n\n\nHe has been practicing Seitai for almost 40 years and has been teaching Seitai since 1998. He has not only taught Seitai to members of the Seitai Keikojo\, but has also shared Seitai as part of international projects in the realm of art and somatic psychology. \n\n\n\nKazuhiro Sunami works and lives in Kyoto\, Japan. The workshop in Vienna will be part of his first trip to Europe since 12 years. \n\n\n\nFor more details about Kazuhiro Sunami\, visit https://dohokids.blogspot.com/. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDetails\nTimes:Saturday 28 June | 10 am – 6 pm (UTC+1)Sunday 29 June | 9 am – 5 pm  \nLanguage:English with translation into German \nParticipation fee:240 € \nContact for further information:Alexandra Gelny  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSign up for the workshop\nTHE WORKSHOP IS FULLY BOOKED NOW.
