SeiKi. Floating like a butterfly, stinging like a bee. | Heidelberg.

Alice Whieldon is finally returning to Heidelberg for a 2.5 day SeiKi workshop.

April 16, 2027 – April 18, 2027 UTC+1

Floating like a butterfly, stinging like a bee. – Mohammad Ali

Muhammad Ali was talking about boxing, but it is an apt description of SeiKi; the skilled practitioner glides effortlessly into the right moment, seeing the right place to touch in the way exactly right for this person, in this time and this place. The result? The receiver comes back to who they are and can breathe again. Health reestablishes itself.

SeiKi is a new lineage coming out of Shiatsu. Its founder, Kishi Akinobu, a master of Shiatsu, experienced a profound awakening to truth in 1980. Out of this, SeiKi was born.

It is hands-on bodywork, yet not defined by techniques. It is an approach to life that comes out of a Japanese appreciation of health. Though this is different from how we commonly understand wellness, sickness and medicine, it is universally familiar, appealing and effective. Even the medical profession now recognises the healing value of touch. In SeiKi we refine this basic human impulse into a skill and profession. It is touch at its simplest and yet most profound. Clients experience coming home to themselves, releasing old hurts and trauma, finding they can breathe again.

If you are a Shiatsu practitioner, come and be inspired by SeiKi, there is no need to abandon Shiatsu in doing so. We invite you to join us and catch an echo of the Japanese roots of your work through the lens of SeiKi.

For students of SeiKi, since the Way of Touch is grounded in beginners mind, whether you are a newcomer or old hand you will find much to enjoy and learn.

For anyone new to this work, you are welcome to come and enjoy the restorative powers of uncomplicated touch, practicing and receiving, for personal or professional development.

Dr. Alice Whieldon has presented SeiKi for over 25 years. She worked closely with Kishi Akinobu until his death in 2012 and co-authored, Sei-Ki: Life in Resonance (2011, Kishi and Whieldon).

Alice is Director of Sei-Ki Hub, founded with two colleagues and dedicated to furthering Sei-Ki as a profession and community. She also wrote, Clearing: the key to mindfulness mastery (2016). Alice has degrees in Philosophy, Religious Studies and Theology and taught in Higher Education for many years. She brings a forensic understanding to her presentation of this work.

Teaching approach

Demonstration is crucial to picking up the ‘feel’, qualities and basic form of Sei-Ki through active observation and, where possible, experiencing the direct touch of the instructor or assistant.

Practice is central to learning Sei-Ki. Guidance in the form of kata (exercises) will be given, as well as time to freely explore with the benefit of gentle supervision.

Discussion in the form of Q&A sessions and short talks to help students understand core principles in Sei-Ki.

For whom

This SeiKi workshop is open to participants with and without SeiKi experience. It can be an important milestone for anyone with an interest in SeiKi:

  • for those who have found their “home” in practicing SeiKi and would like to continue to pursue SeiKi as their Way, as well as
  • for Shiatsu practitioners to gain inspiration from SeiKi, and
  • it is also a workshop for people without a professional bodywork background who are curious about SeiKi, who want to strengthen their own sensitivity and who are keen to experience themselves in a new way, also in a dialog of touch with others.
